Shop Locally
Shopping is an important feature of modern life. Whether you shop for
entertainment, or just buy basic groceries, going to the shops is
something we all do.
Here in the Botany district our local shopping scene has evolved from
basic corner shops to supermarkets and a modern mall. In this exhibition you’ll get to see a number of our shops both past and present.
You’ll discover everything from the long gone Quality Stores in Mascot,
to the Kavanaghs Pharmacy in Banksmeadow, which opened in 1945 and still
trades today.
Sydney's Italian Fruit Shops
This photographic exhibition extracts the cultural significance of the
Italian fruit shops in Sydney from the turn of the twentieth century.
These shops changed Australian eating habits and made a tangible impact on the cultural landscape of our streets and suburbs.
Exhibition runs until July 6th 2012
